Parents are asked to provide beverage and snacks several days per year for their child’s class. By bringing the snack, each child feels that he/she is contributing something to his/her school. Of course, this contribution is even more special to a child if he/she helps mom and/or dad prepare it at home. The children also love preparing their own snack during class, such as spreading cheese on crackers. ***On their snack day, parents should send enough snacks for all the children and adults in the class. Please provide napkins with the snack, and other utensils that may be needed for eating or serving the snack such as bowls, plastic spoons, forks or knives, etc. Reusable plates and cups are provided for use when serving snack. *** Snack items should be provided from two separate food groups. For example, if sliced apples are served as a snack, milk should be the beverage. Sliced cheese and crackers can be served with 100% juice or water. Please remember this is meant to be a snack, not a meal. Suggested serving sizes are listed with each idea and a good snack consists of two of the choices with a beverage. SPNS also requires that all snacks be nutritious. The school will not serve a snack which does not meet the nutritional guidelines set forth by the State of Wisconsin. Parents should be sure to look over these snack ideas. If in doubt about a snack item, parents should speak with their child’s teacher or the Program Director. Special treats - for birthdays or class parties – may be served IN ADDITION to two nutritional snack choices, with teacher approval. In the event that a snack or beverage does not follow the guidelines outlined in the handbook, the teachers shall serve an acceptable snack from the emergency snack basket. The helping parent will then be required to replenish the snack that was used. This also applies to forgotten snacks. **Due to the increasing amounts of allergies in children, SPNS takes special care not to bring peanuts into the classrooms. However, because we rent space from the church, we cannot guarantee a "peanut-free" building. We do our best to keep peanuts out of our classrooms and keep a very close eye on our students with allergies. The following is a list of appropriate snacks: BEVERAGES UNACCEPTABLE SNACKS
