The last full month of school is upon us and before we know it, we will be at our graduation ceremony on June 7th, thinking about how much the children have changed since September. Our class has certainly changed since our first day of school and we’re looking forward to seeing continued growth and development throughout May and June.
Since vacation, we have been busy in the 4K classroom. During the week after Spring Break, we introduced new additions to our classroom – ladybug larvae. The children have been fascinated with the insects’ metamorphoses and have been observing their changes daily. Once they change to full-blown ladybugs, we will release them at the park, a more suitable habitat. But shortly thereafter, we will introduce caterpillars to the classroom. We will watch and document their changes over approximately a two-week period.
Coinciding with the insects unit is our upcoming gardening unit. In the next few weeks, we will plant seeds and flowers, which you will be able to see at the school’s entrance (Door #6). Then later in May, Milee’s mom, Maegen, will discuss botany with the class, which I know the class will truly enjoy.
Our last unit of the year will be the farm. During the last weeks of May, we will look at the farm, and its role in society. We will explore the people, animals, and agriculture that make up a farm. We will finish that unit with a trip to Sassy Cow creamery –we are eagerly awaiting that trip!
Lastly, we would like to thank you for all you’ve done this year, from volunteering in the classroom and various school events, supporting our fundraising efforts, and keeping the communication lines open. And we would simply like to thank you for raising such great kids – they kept us on our toes all year and they were lots of fun!
